Biography
Angelica Adams is an American soprano hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico. While a specialist in 20th century works, she has most recently performed as Barbarina and Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. A tenacious and meticulous musician, Adams commands the stage with a resonant voice and playful character. Currently residing in South Florida, Angelica studies under the tutelage of the world renowned soprano, Sandra Lopez-Neill and is primarily based out of Boynton Beach.
During the 2024 season, Angelica performed her senior recital featuring works by Handel, Bizet, Wolf, Barber, and Obradors. In January, Angelica won first place in the Florida Gold Coast chapter of the NATS competition. In terms of her most recent operatic performance, she was cast as “Salvation Army girl 1”, a short cameo role in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene (March 2024).
2023 was a breakthrough year for Angelica, as she debuted her first two roles in a fully staged opera. In February, she played Barbarina in Le Nozze di Fígaro with Frost Opera Theater. During the summer of the same year, she performed the lead role, Susanna, in Chicago Summer Opera’s production of Le Nozze di Fígaro. Additionally, she gave her Junior recital in April, featuring works by Donizetti, Schubert, Faure, and Bernstein. As a part of a scenes program in November of 2023, Angelica took to the stage singing the part of Fiordiligi from Cosí fan tutte in the duet “Prenderó quel brunettino”. Other scene appearances in this role included “A guarda sorella” and “Alla bella Despinetta”.
The 2022 season was rather busy, beginning with the premier performance of “The Leopard” by Michael Dellaria. In this opera, Angelica was a featured ballroom dancer in the prelude as well as a member of the chorus. Later, in the Spring of 2022, she performed as a soprano soloist in Debussy’s 3 Nocturnes at the Frost School of Music. Over the summer, she traveled to Salzburg, Austria and had the privilege of performing “I Could Have Danced All Night” from the musical My Fair Lady on the outdoor stage of the infamous Mirabell garden. By fall 2022, she was cast as Margaret in a scene from “Clever Artifice” by Leanna Kirchhoff.
Angelica appeared in numerous scenes and performances with Frost Opera Theater prior to the roles she received in her Junior and Senior years. These include chorus parts in the oratorio El Niño (2021), operas such as Puccini’s La Boheme (2023), and operettas such as Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury (2022). Additional solo performances with Frost Opera theater include the Soprano in The Four Note Opera (2021). During Angelica’s freshman fall of college (2020), she appeared in a virtual concert in celebration of World Opera day with the Santa Fe Opera and Chatter ABQ.
Prior to college, Angelica participated in the esteemed Young Voices of the Santa Fe Opera program, under the tutelage of Kathleen Clawson. During this time, she performed in community outreach concerts at children's libraries, was a part of the chorus in numerous operas, and participated in a few hired gigs. The operas she participated in include the premier of Sweet Potato Kicks the Sun by the Grammy award winning composer Augusta Reed Thomas and Shoes for the Santo Niño by Stephen Paulus. One of her most notable gigs was for the governor’s summit in New Mexico in 2018, in which she sang solo for the spouses of all of the United States governors.
